Current patch decision guide
When to pick Luna, when to avoid them, and how to adapt your build.
Luna is a struggling Jungle Fighter who wants to pick off isolated heroes once mobility is online. Public guide data shows a build centered on Guerrilla Machete, Boots of the Arcane, Insatiable Tome, paired with Smite, used to clear camps efficiently and convert pressure into ganks. Pick her when the draft lets Luna reach the targets her kit is designed to threaten; avoid when the enemy chains crowd control that stops the engage before damage lands.
Pick Luna when
- The map shape favors gank routes, where mobility translates directly into kills
- Your team can engage first, letting Luna second-wave into low-health targets
- The enemy draft includes Yuhuan, Lady Zhen, and Heino, who appear in counter data as matchups Luna can pressure.
Avoid Luna when
- Enemy peel is strong and Luna cannot reach the backline without dying first
- Your team has no primary engage, leaving the cleanup pick with nothing to follow up on
- A stronger pick in the same role is open and the matchup does not specifically reward Luna's Gap-Close.

Build decisions
Default jungle path
Public build references for Luna recommend Guerrilla Machete, Boots of the Arcane, Insatiable Tome, Augur's Word, Boots of Resistance, and Runeblade, with Red Moon, Hunt, and Mind's Eye arcana. Run Smite as the battle spell. Use this as the baseline fighter plan before adapting to the enemy draft.
Situational item pivots
Spare options listed in build data include Void Staff, Savant's Wrath, Sage's Sanctuary, Destiny, and Splendor. Treat these as situational swaps when the default path is not enough — for example, swapping in defensive items against burst comps or penetration items against stacked armor.
Matchup logic
Versus crowd control
Reliable hard control stops Luna's engage before the combo lands. Bait the most threatening control skill before committing New Moon, and wait for ally engage to absorb peel.
Role positioning
Luna is a Jungle pick whose value depends on tempo from objectives and cross-map kill threats. Stick to the role plan rather than forcing fights her kit is not designed to win.
Synergies
Public synergy data lists Dyadia, Guiguzi, and Zhuangzi as strong partners for Luna. Plan engages around Dyadia's setup window, then second-engage with New Moon.
Common mistakes
- Engaging without follow-up — gap-close gets you to the target, but a solo dive without ally damage trades 1-for-1.
- Engaging first instead of second — cleanup picks lose their value as primary engagers.
- Engaging without checking enemy summoner-spell cooldowns, which often decide whether Luna's commit reaches the target alive.
- Pathing predictably and getting tracked by the enemy jungler — vary first clear and rotate based on ward placement rather than muscle memory.
Background
Moonblade
“My sword is burning, and so is my heart!”
Luna is a free-spirited warrior blessed by the moon. Proud and resolute, she presents herself with a commanding aura. However, she has experienced her share of darkness. When she was just a young girl, Kaizer, her older brother whom she adored with all her heart, went on a rampage and slaughtered everyone in their family. He had always been kind to her, such that she could not believe he was capable of such a wicked act. Indeed, it was the curse upon their ancient clan that had driven him to act against it: Only one member of the clan could inherit its wondrous powers. She had been chosen, and he had not. Luna understood her brother's suffering and would not fight him. When she willingly offered her life to her brother's sword, he found it impossible to bring it down upon her. Now, Luna spends her time searching for her lost brother, becoming ever stronger during her journey.

Luna is typically forced to leave the battlefield if her Ultimate fails. We have changed Luna's Basic Attack to allow her to contribute ranged damage while looking for a chance to return to battle.
