Current patch decision guide
When to pick Wukong, when to avoid them, and how to adapt your build.
Wukong is a strong Jungle Assassin who wants to snowball with kills off early ganks. Public guide data shows a build centered on Hunting Knife, Boots of Dexterity, Relentless Blade, paired with Smite, used to clear camps efficiently and convert pressure into ganks. Pick him when the draft lets Wukong reach the targets his kit is designed to threaten; avoid when the enemy chains crowd control that stops the engage before damage lands.
Pick Wukong when
- The map shape favors gank routes, where mobility translates directly into kills
- The enemy team has multiple high-mobility threats that need to be locked down before they reach your backline
- The enemy draft includes Dun, Lian Po, and Xiang Yu, who appear in counter data as matchups Wukong can pressure.
Avoid Wukong when
- Enemy peel is strong and Wukong cannot reach the backline without dying first
- Your team lacks the follow-up damage to convert your control windows into kills
- The enemy team is built around answers to Gap-Close, removing the windows Wukong's kit needs to perform.

Build decisions
Crit assassin jungle core
Wukong's official build runs a crit assassin jungle path for his Gap-Close and Crowd Control kit. Hunting Knife speeds up his clear (with Smite for objectives), Relentless Blade and Rapacious Bite scale physical attack from monster kills, and Eternity Blade adds the high crit damage to burst the backline. Boots of Dexterity ramps his attack speed between resets.
Burst, anti-tank & survivability
Blazing Cape (area burn) and Overlord's Might add output, Starbreaker is the anti-tank pivot against armor stacks, and Sage's Sanctuary (on-the-spot resurrect) plus Destiny (negates fatal damage) let him dive and escape. The recommended arcana are Unparalleled, Reaver and Eagle Eye, with Smite for jungle control.
Matchup logic
Versus crowd control
Reliable hard control stops Wukong's engage before the combo lands. Bait the most threatening control skill before committing Golden Cudgel, and wait for ally engage to absorb peel.
Role positioning
Wukong is a Jungle pick whose value depends on tempo from objectives and cross-map kill threats. Stick to the role plan rather than forcing fights his kit is not designed to win.
Synergies
Public synergy data lists Heino, Shi, and Kongming as strong partners for Wukong. Plan engages around Heino's setup window, then second-engage with Golden Cudgel.
Common mistakes
- Diving while enemy hard control is still up, which directly counters Wukong's engage.
- Throwing Furious Advance on the front-line tank instead of saving it for backline carries.
- Engaging without checking enemy summoner-spell cooldowns, which often decide whether Wukong's commit reaches the target alive.
- Pathing predictably and getting tracked by the enemy jungler — vary first clear and rotate based on ward placement rather than muscle memory.
Background
Monkey King
“The right path is under my feet!”
Rebellious by nature, Wukong hated being governed and restrained, and he openly despised the shackles the hypocritical superbeings had placed on the feralis. During those dark times, he led a rebellion. Wherever his Golden Cudgel went, the shackles of oppression were shattered—and the feralis freed. Until the superbeings used their absolute power to seal him at the foot of Mountains, that is. But the fire within him could not be extinguished, and now he awaits the one destined to forge a new path with him...

Reduced Ultimate cooldown and increased passive base damage.

"Wukong has been underperforming lately. His enhanced Basic Attack, being his primary damage source, relies heavily on completing his equipment. We're increasing the Growth of his enhanced Basic Attack, so he can still pose a threat even when behind."
Ultimate damage and Skill 1 shield are increased, improving play from the beginning.

Wukong is currently too weak, so we strengthened the shield of his Skill 1, giving him a stronger response when successfully blocking skills. Since his Ultimate is an important part of his skill combos, we also hope to adequately improve his early-game stats to ensure his playability from the start.
