Current patch decision guide
When to pick Chano, when to avoid them, and how to adapt your build.
Chano is a strong Farm Marksman who wants to finish off low-health targets after the enemy uses their key skills. Public guide data shows a build centered on Storm Sword, Lightfoot Shoes, Eternity Blade, paired with Flash, used to farm the safe side, scale into late game, and protect priority targets. Pick him when the draft lets Chano reach the back-line scaling window without being caught out; avoid when the matchup denies the windows his kit needs.
Pick Chano when
- Your team can engage first, letting Chano second-wave into low-health targets
- The enemy team has front-line targets that Chano can chip down with sustained ranged damage
- The enemy team lacks reliable assassin pressure, letting Chano free-cast through extended fights.
Avoid Chano when
- Your team has no primary engage, leaving the cleanup pick with nothing to follow up on
- The game is decided early before the marksman can hit core item spikes
- The enemy team is built around answers to Initiate, removing the windows Chano's kit needs to perform.

Build decisions
Crit marksman core
Chano's official build runs a crit-marksman path for his Initiate and Cleanup identity. Storm Sword front-loads physical attack, Lightfoot Shoes adds movement speed, and Eternity Blade with Shadow Ripper (crits boost attack speed) builds the crit snowball. Boots of Resistance is taken here to shorten crowd control so he survives the dives his kit invites.
Range, sustain & damage tail
Daybreaker's Virtue adds marksman sustain damage, Sunchaser extends his attack range for safer output, Bloodweeper provides physical lifesteal, and Doomsday scales his basic attacks. The recommended arcana are Calamity, Reaver, Hunt and Eagle Eye, with Flash for spacing in and out of cleanup range.
Matchup logic
Versus disengage tools
Heroes with strong disengage neutralize cleanup windows. Hold Leader Stance until the disengage is used, then commit on the second engage.
Role positioning
Chano is a Farm pick whose value depends on sustained ranged damage in extended team fights. Stick to the role plan rather than forcing fights his kit is not designed to win.
Synergies
Public synergy data lists Cai Yan, Zhuangzi, and Yaria as strong partners for Chano. Plan engages around Cai Yan's setup window, then second-engage with Leader Stance.
Common mistakes
- Engaging first instead of second — cleanup picks lose their value as primary engagers.
- Auto-attacking instead of repositioning when the enemy assassin is missing — losing the marksman loses the fight.
- Engaging without checking enemy summoner-spell cooldowns, which often decide whether Chano's commit reaches the target alive.
- Auto-attacking through enemy dive instead of repositioning — losing the marksman in early fights collapses the late-game win condition.
Background
Packleader
“The Ancient Wolf once said that the spirit of the wolf can be found within its sharpest fang.”
Years later, the Last Wolf had long become the King of the Northlands. Memories of his early days in Chonokh rose to the surface as Chano ignored his foreign allies' invitation to conquer the East and fixed his gaze on the glory and danger hidden in the north of the Winter Ocean. He had been celebrated as a tribal hero and branded a beast, only to be betrayed by his best friend and left at death's doors. Yet he never ceased his pursuit. Unlike most, he understood the secrets of the Sunfall. He knew he was not born to follow mere human desires. His mission was to destroy the source of all suffering in the Northlands...
